5-Day Egypt Family Vacation: Pyramids, Museum and Luxor

Your Egypt family vacation begins in Cairo. Your private representative meets you inside the airport, guides you through passport control, baggage claim and customs, and drives you to a hotel overlooking the Nile. The rest of the day is free to rest after the journey.

Start at the Grand Egyptian Museum, the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization, where the golden mask of the young king Tutankhamun is among the treasures. After lunch at a local restaurant, head to the Giza Plateau for the Great Pyramids, the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Ride a camel out into the desert for a wide view of the monuments, then stand in front of the Sphinx. The day ends on foot in Islamic Cairo, along Al-Muizz Street, an open-air museum of medieval architecture, and through the alleys of the Khan el-Khalili bazaar.

Fly to Luxor and begin at Karnak, the largest religious complex ever built for a god, dedicated to Amun-Ra. Beyond the main halls, the visit includes two quieter corners that few travelers see: the Opet temple and the temple of Khonsu. Then visit Luxor Temple, largely the work of Ramses II, before checking in to your hotel.

Cross to the west bank for the Valley of the Kings, with entry to the tomb of Tutankhamun and the richly painted tomb of Ramses VI included. Continue to the temple of Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh who ruled as a king, and stop for photos at the Colossi of Memnon. After lunch you fly to Cairo and check in to a hotel next to the airport.

After breakfast, walk to the international terminal for your flight home.
