Egypt small group tour: at a Glance

Of all our small group Egypt tours, this 12-day journey is the slowest and the most intimate. Four nights at the Kempinski Nile Hotel, Cairo give you Saqqara and Dahshur, the Giza Plateau before it opens with the Great Pyramid's closed chambers, and a full day at the Grand Egyptian Museum. In Luxor you board a luxury dahabiya, a traditional sailing boat with only a handful of cabins, for five nights on the Nile. Moor where the big ships cannot, dine by candlelight at the Esna Lock, lunch on a quiet island near Kom Ombo and reach Abu Simbel before sailing into Aswan. Two final nights at the Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis, with old Cairo and a farewell dinner, close one of the most memorable small group Egypt tours we offer.

    What our guests say

    Voices from the journey

    “
I'll be honest I almost canceled this trip after reading so many conflicting opinions online. From my very first email, Hamdy patiently answered every question without ever making me feel pressured to book. When we landed in Cairo, Magdy was already waiting outside arrivals, and within an hour I realized I'd spent weeks worrying for nothing. Looking back, what I'll remember most isn't just the pyramids, but how easy the entire journey felt.

    Private Giza Plateau After Hours

    Private Giza Plateau After Hours

Imagine the Giza Plateau once the last tour bus has gone. As the sun sinks behind the pyramids and the sand turns gold, or under a sky full of stars, you walk the plateau with only your private Egyptologist for company. Without the crowds, you can stand at the foot of the Great Pyramid, notice carvings and details that daytime visitors rush past, and photograph the monuments in soft twilight. It is the quietest and most personal way to meet the last surviving wonder of the ancient world.

    Beneath the Sphinx Paws

    Beneath the Sphinx Paws

Go beyond the usual viewing platform and stand at the paws of the Sphinx, a spot most visitors never reach. Your Egyptologist walks you through the legends, the questions about who built it and why, and the story of how the desert buried and revealed it again over the centuries. Standing this close, the scale and the weathered details of the stone feel completely different. It is a calm, close-up encounter with Egypt's most enigmatic monument.

    Luxor Temple After Hours

    Luxor Temple After Hours

Visit Luxor Temple in the evening, when the crowds have faded and soft golden lighting brings the sandstone to life. Colossal statues and towering columns cast long, dramatic shadows, and every hieroglyph looks sharper in the glow. With the temple nearly to yourselves, your Egyptologist explains how it was built to celebrate the renewal of kingship and how it connects to Karnak through the Avenue of Sphinxes. It is a calm, atmospheric walk through thousands of years of history.

Valley of the Kings After Hours + Tutankhamun's Tomb

Valley of the Kings After Hours + Tutankhamun's Tomb

As the evening light settles on the cliffs of Luxor's West Bank, enter the Valley of the Kings once the day visitors have gone. The valley feels completely different in the quiet, and the painted corridors and burial chambers of the pharaohs feel closer and more personal. This experience includes the tomb of Tutankhamun, where the young king still rests in his burial chamber. With your Egyptologist beside you, walk in the footsteps of ancient royalty in near solitude.

    $6,500 per booking
    Wahtye Tomb at Saqqara

    Wahtye Tomb at Saqqara

Step inside the Tomb of Wahtye, one of the most remarkable discoveries at Saqqara, found within an active excavation site and not open to regular visitors. Its painted walls and carved figures are still strikingly vivid, and your guide explains the life of the royal priest buried here and the scenes that surround him. Standing at a working dig, with archaeologists still uncovering what lies beneath the sand, you feel that Egypt's story is still being written.

    $3,200 per booking
    Step Pyramid Northern Entrance

    Step Pyramid Northern Entrance

Enter Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara through its northern entrance, a route rarely offered to visitors. Below ground, the galleries are decorated with vivid blue faience tiles, a rare detail that the ancient Egyptians associated with rebirth and eternal life. Your Egyptologist helps you read what the tiles meant and how they were made, with no rush. It is a close look at the oldest large stone monument in the world and at the artistry of the people who built it.
