Le Méridien Cairo Airport sits inside the Cairo International Airport complex and connects to Terminal 3 by a pedestrian bridge, so arriving or departing guests can walk between the terminal and the hotel lobby without a car. Other terminals are reached by the hotel's airport shuttle, which should be arranged with the hotel in advance.
It is not a sightseeing base. The hotel is in the Heliopolis area, around 10 minutes by car from the Baron Empain Palace and roughly 20 minutes from downtown Cairo in light traffic, while the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum are a longer drive across the city, so allow extra time for traffic. For our guests this is a final-night hotel, where a long touring week ends with a short walk to the flight home.
The hotel has 349 rooms and suites: 264 Deluxe Rooms, 66 Club rooms on the club floors, 18 suites (nine studio suites and nine panoramic suites) and one Presidential Suite. Deluxe and Club rooms are listed at roughly 33 square metres, with king or twin beds, floor-to-ceiling windows and views over the airport or the pool. All rooms are soundproofed and carry Le Méridien's signature beds, which matters in a hotel beside an airport.
Club rooms include access to the Club Lounge, a useful extra on a travel day when check-in or departure times are awkward. Exact suite names, square footage by category and bedding configurations for families still need to be confirmed with the hotel at the time of booking rather than assumed.
The heated outdoor pool is the main draw after a day of touring, and the hotel also has a fitness center and a spa. A 24-hour concierge, currency exchange, laundry and dry cleaning, and a business center with meeting rooms round out the services. The practical advantages are the ones you would expect from an airport hotel: quiet rooms, round-the-clock service and an easy walk to Terminal 3.
The hotel has several restaurants and bars, including a sports bar, and room service runs around the clock for late arrivals. Menus and opening hours change, so we confirm dinner arrangements with the hotel before arrival rather than assuming a particular restaurant is open.
We use Le Méridien Cairo Airport as the final night on our family, small-group and solo itineraries. After a week of early starts, the combination of a short walk from Terminal 3, quiet rooms and a heated pool makes the last evening easy, and it removes Cairo traffic from the one day when a missed connection would be costly.
It is a practical choice rather than a romantic one. Guests who want a design-led final stay are better placed at the Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis, and those who want the Nile at their window stay in our Nile-side hotels earlier in the trip.
Within about ten minutes by car are the Baron Empain Palace, the early twentieth-century mansion at the heart of Heliopolis, and the garden-suburb streets around it. The Citystars shopping center is close by for guests who want an easy evening out. Downtown Cairo is roughly 20 minutes away in light traffic, and longer at peak hours.
Terminal 3 guests walk across the bridge; for other terminals, ask us to arrange the airport shuttle in advance.
