The Nubian Village Tour Aswan takes you by boat to Gharb Soheil, a village on the west bank where Nubian life, language and colour are still part of every day.
Your private motorboat leaves from the Corniche and sails south past Elephantine Island and the granite rocks of the First Cataract, with sand dunes reaching down to the water on the west bank. The journey itself, about forty minutes, is one of the most beautiful on the Nile.
In the village, you walk among houses painted in bright blues, yellows and pinks, decorated with Nubian patterns. A local family welcomes you for tea and karkadeh, the hibiscus drink of the south, and talks about Nubian traditions and the villages lost under Lake Nasser. There is time for the small craft shops and for henna, before you sail back to Aswan at sunset.
By Boat to a Nubian Village
Your guide collects you from your hotel in the afternoon and takes you to the Corniche, where your private motorboat waits. Sail south past Elephantine Island and the First Cataract to Gharb Soheil. Walk through the village's painted lanes, visit a Nubian family home for tea and conversation, and browse the local crafts. Sail back toward Aswan as the sun sets over the golden dunes, then return to your hotel.
