The Edfu Kom Ombo Day Trip from Aswan visits the two great temples north of Aswan, for travellers who are not sailing between Luxor and Aswan.
About an hour north of Aswan, Kom Ombo stands on a bend of the Nile. It is a rare double temple, shared by the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris, with two entrances and two sanctuaries side by side. Next to it, the Crocodile Museum displays mummified crocodiles found in the area.
After lunch you continue north to Edfu and the Temple of Horus, the best preserved temple in Egypt, with its roof, pylon and sanctuary still complete. Your Egyptologist reads with you the reliefs of the battle between Horus and Seth. You return to Aswan in the late afternoon, or continue north to Luxor if you are moving on.
Kom Ombo & Edfu from Aswan
Leave Aswan in the morning with your Egyptologist and drive north to Kom Ombo to visit the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris and the Crocodile Museum. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Edfu and explore the Temple of Horus from its great pylon to its sanctuary. Drive back to your hotel in Aswan in the late afternoon, or continue north to Luxor with your luggage on board.
