This Cairo Pyramids Day Tour gives you the two faces of the city in one day: pharaonic Giza in the morning and medieval Cairo in the afternoon.
Your Egyptologist starts at the Giza Plateau with the Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. After lunch you cross the city to the Citadel of Salah al-Din, built in the 12th century to defend Cairo, and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, whose domes and minarets rise above the skyline.
The day ends in Khan El Khalili, a bazaar that has traded since the 14th century. Wander its lanes of lamps, spices and silver, then sit for mint tea in one of its old coffee houses before your driver takes you back to your hotel.
Giza Pyramids, the Citadel & Khan El Khalili
Begin at the Giza Plateau with your Egyptologist, visiting the three pyramids, the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. After lunch, drive to the Citadel of Salah al-Din and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, with wide views across Cairo. Your guide explains how the city grew around this hilltop fortress over eight centuries. End the day in Khan El Khalili, where you have free time to explore the bazaar and stop for tea before returning to your hotel.
