Your private car leaves Luxor early and follows the Nile south for about three hours. In Aswan, your Egyptologist starts at the High Dam, completed in 1970, which created Lake Nasser and changed life along the Nile forever. Next is the Unfinished Obelisk in the ancient granite quarries, which would have stood about 42 metres tall had it not cracked.
After lunch, a motorboat takes you to Agilkia Island and the Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Moved stone by stone to save it from the rising water, it is one of the most graceful temples in Egypt. You return to Luxor in the evening.
High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk & Philae
Leave Luxor early in the morning with your Egyptologist and drive south to Aswan. Visit the High Dam and its view over Lake Nasser, then the Unfinished Obelisk in the granite quarries. After lunch overlooking the Nile, take a motorboat to Agilkia Island to explore the Temple of Philae. In the late afternoon, begin the drive back to Luxor along the Nile valley, arriving at your hotel in the evening.
